Natural Treatment and Prevention of Prostate Disorders

Prostate health should begin with diet and a good nutritional support program.  I recommend supplementing your diet with a Life Extension product called ADVANCED NATURAL PROSTATE FORMULA W/5-LOXIN 60 SOFTGELS .  I use this product myself and have been pleased with the symptomatic relief.  I sleep all night and experience no daytime symptoms.

Another procedure you can do at home that has helped many people relieve prostatitis and BPH is the Prostate Sitz Bath.  This procedure costs you almost nothing, takes 20 minutes and can yield tremendous results in a matter of a few days.

What you’ll need:

1.  You’ll need two Sitz baths (an inexpensive plastic basin that fits into the bowl of your toilet and overflows from the basin into the toilet bowl.  These are available from most pharmacies.

2.  Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate)—also inexpensive and available at any pharmacy and most grocery stores.

3.  One inexpensive indoor/outdoor thermometer that can be immersed in water.

4.  A watch or clock with a second hand.

The Prostate Sitz Bath Procedure

The purpose of the sitz bath is to apply alternative temperature changes to the prostate.  The process of heating and cooling, combined with the effects of the Epsom Salts can effectively drain the acini (small ducts) of the enlarged prostate.

1.  Begin by filling one sitz bath with hot water.  Try to use water that is at least 105 degrees F. but no more than 120 degrees F. (50 degrees C.).  Mix two to three tablespoons of Epsom Salts into the hot water.

2.  Fill the second sitz bath with cold tap water or slightly iced water.

3.  Begin by placing the hot sitz bath inside the toilet bowl and sting in the hot water.  Lean forward and spread the legs and buttocks slightly to all the water to cover the prostate area and rise above the base of your penis.  Rock back and forth slightly to keep moving hot water against the skin.  Add hot water as needed to maintain water temperature.  Sit in this bath for six minutes.

4.  Trade the hot bath for the cold one by exchanging sitz baths in the toilet.  Sit for one minute in the cold bath, then repeat the cycle of hot and cold baths three times.  Add more hot water to the hot bath if the temperature drops too low.

It can also be helpful to do PC contractions during the bath. The PC muscle is the muscle you flex when they stop their urine flow mid-stream.  Just squeeze the muscle, hold for six seconds, then release. Inhale deeply through your nose, and exhale through your mouth. As you exhale, concentrate on the contractions, pulling the pelvic floor muscle up and in, squeezing the PC muscle. Contract your naval toward the spine. Then inhale as you release.
